Maine was part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony from 1677-1776.

The Massachusetss Tax Valuation List of 1771 lists "John Bradbury, Esquire" in York. [Note that from 1615 to 1819 Maine was under the jurisdiction of Massachusetts.] The list shows that the judge had in his household one rateable poll (himself, though he may have been except because of his age), that he had one house and that the worth of his real estate was L6.10s. He had 1 horse, 2 oxen, 3 cattle, 10 goats and sheep, 1 swine and 37.0 acres of pasture. By some formula it was determine that the number of cows this pasture will keep was 7. He had 2.5 acres of tillage, had produced 38 bushels of grain, had 9 acres of English and Upland mowing land which produced 7.5 tons of hay per year.
